Medical certificate what now…

I finally received a letter from Transport Canada (TC) at the end of February. Instead of receiving a medical certificate, I received a letter asking for more information and tests to prove the airworthiness of my health. :). Hopefully, this is the last part of this. Since they took 3 months just to let me know I did not provide everything, I hope the wait won’t be too long when they have all they need. Anyhow, my medical examiner was able to send every request at the beginning of April.

Since the ground school was beginning in the middle of March and I was not worried about what TC needed to issue the certificate, I went ahead and paid my enrolment. The fact that my certificate is only needed to solo, and I am several weeks from that moment, I am not too worried about TC and the medical at this time.

I went to Orizon for the welcoming night to receive the explanation of what the next several weeks will look likes and also get my manuals (AIM, CFR, pilot guide, Human factor and “From the ground UP”), tools, maps, and others good stuff. This was also the night that we needed to select on which plane we wanted to train. This is because the school needs to provide the Pilot’s Operating Handbook (POH) and the checklist of the plane we are going to train with. I selected to train in the Diamond DA-20 which is a 2 seats low wings trainer.

All that is needed now is one more exam, the proof from my doctor that I don’t have any kidneys, neurologic, or hypoglycemia problems, and that there is no recurrence of an old skin cancer treated and cured twenty years ago. Once all these documents have been analyzed by TC hopefully, they will give their benediction. What is nice is that the medical renewal is quicker than the first. We just needed a quick check every 2 years that need to be signed by my medical examiner every 2 years. Yes, when you are over 40 it comes pretty fast. Private Canadian pilots under 40 are good for 5 years.
